Rochester Montessori School is a nondenominational, not for profit
organization serving children from 18 months to 12 years old. Our
diverse community is open to children of all cultures and backgrounds,
we frequently serve children from the international community. We are
alive with the spirit of acceptance and inclusion. We currently have
approximately 160 students from 120 families and 28 staff members to
serve them.
History
Rochester Montessori School began in 1968 with a small group of
parents desiring a Montessori education for their children. Starting
with twelve children in a private home, the RMS community has grown and
prospered to its current size. Over the course of our history, we have
leased facilities at various locations in Rochester, including the
Congregational Church, the Rochester Town Hall, Assisi Heights, Bethel
Lutheran Church, and the Christ United Methodist Church. We have,
however, recently moved into a new facility that we can now call our
home. Many parents and staff have worked hard over the years to make
this home a reality and the reality of it has injected excitement into
everything that we do. All that we are able to do today is built upon
the work of
the past!
Our school is run by a parent elected board of Directors which
consists of current and past parents as well as several community
members. The Board of Directors, in coordination with an Executive
Director, oversees the general operation of the school and guides us
into the future. Our small administrative staff assure that the basic
daily operation runs smoothly. The lifeblood of the school however,
comes from the teaching staff, those that work day in and day out with
the children. We're sure that, once you get to know us a little, you'll
want to be a part our special community.
