Children's House
3 years-Kindergarten
A purposeful next step in independence and learning
Children’s House builds on the foundation of the Toddler years, welcoming children ages three through Kindergarten into a vibrant Montessori community. In this stage of development, children begin to engage more consciously with learning—developing focus, confidence, and a growing sense of responsibility. Through skilled guidance, purposeful work, and a strong classroom community, children deepen academic skills while continuing to grow socially and emotionally.
Prepared guides
Experienced adults who know each child well
Children’s House classrooms are led by Montessori-trained Guides, supported by one or two classroom assistants, who carefully observe each child’s progress and readiness. Guides introduce lessons intentionally and track each child’s development over time, from introduction to practice to mastery. Older children serve as role models and leaders within the classroom, reinforcing their own learning while inspiring younger classmates. This collaborative, mixed-age structure supports confidence, responsibility, and a strong sense of belonging.
Prepared environment
Materials and spaces designed for meaningful work
Each Children’s House classroom is thoughtfully prepared with Montessori materials that isolate individual concepts and invite deep, focused work. Children engage across a broad curriculum that includes Practical Life, Language, Math, Science, Sensorial, Geography, Art, and Music. Materials are sequenced to grow with the child, allowing them to build skills progressively and independently. Classroom communities also extend outdoors, where environmental care and stewardship are reinforced through daily practice.
Growing independence
Developing responsibility, confidence, and self-regulation
Independence expands significantly during the Children’s House years. Children care for themselves and their classroom, manage materials responsibly, collaborate with peers, and develop the ability to choose and complete work with increasing focus. Through practical life activities and shared responsibility, children strengthen coordination, concentration, self-regulation, and respect for their community—skills that support both academic learning and social-emotional growth.
Individualized learning
Instruction guided by careful observation and readiness
Careful observation is the foundation of instruction and assessment in Children’s House. Guides maintain detailed records of lessons and progress, ensuring that learning is responsive to each child’s pace and strengths. Families are supported through regular communication and twice-yearly conferences. Over time, children develop strong language and early literacy skills, mathematical reasoning and computation, and an understanding of geography, culture, and the natural world.
Ready for what's next
The next step in your child's Montessori journey
By the end of the Children’s House cycle, most children are reading or close to reading, demonstrate independence in daily life, and see themselves as capable, confident learners. With a strong academic and social foundation in place, children are ready to take the next step into Elementary—where curiosity, responsibility, and rigorous Montessori learning continue to grow.
