Toddler

18–36 months

A gentle, joyful beginning to school

Our Toddler Community offers a warm, intentional bridge between home and school. Rooted in Montessori principles and guided by deep respect for each child’s development, the program balances thoughtful structure with responsive care. Skilled Guides, carefully prepared environments, and an emphasis on independence and individualized growth work together to support toddlers as they build confidence, communication, and a sense of belonging in their first school experience.

Prepared guides

Thoughtful, responsive adults who know each child

RMS Toddler Guides are Montessori-trained professionals who specialize in supporting the youngest learners. They are careful observers—attuned to each child’s readiness, interests, and emotional needs. Rather than directing every moment, Guides know when to step in and when to step back, allowing toddlers to practice skills, solve problems, and build confidence at their own pace. This respectful guidance helps each child feel secure, capable, and known as they begin their first school experience.

Prepared environment

A classroom designed for independence and confidence

Maria Montessori believed the environment itself is a teacher. Our Toddler classrooms are intentionally designed for small bodies and growing independence, with child-sized furniture, accessible materials, and clear routines. Activities are arranged to invite movement, exploration, and repetition—supporting coordination, concentration, and a sense of order. With direct access to outdoor play spaces, toddlers experience a seamless rhythm between indoor and outdoor work.

Growing independence

Building skills, pride, and self-trust, step by step

Independence begins early. In the Toddler Community, children practice caring for themselves and their environment—washing hands, preparing simple snacks, cleaning up work, and participating in daily routines. These experiences build practical skills alongside confidence, self-regulation, and pride. Toddlers learn, “I can do this,” laying the foundation for resilience and lifelong learning.

Individualized learning

Meeting each child where they are

Every toddler develops on their own timeline. Guides observe closely to introduce language, practical life, sensorial, and creative work when each child is ready. This individualized approach supports growth in communication, social-emotional development, and physical independence—without pressure or comparison. Children move forward with confidence, curiosity, and a strong sense of belonging.

Ready to move up

By the end of the Toddler years, children are comfortable separating from caregivers, communicating their needs, caring for themselves, and participating fully in a classroom community. With this strong, joyful foundation in place, they are ready to move on to Children’s House—RMS’s program for children ages three through Kindergarten.
