Visit the School
The most meaningful way to understand Rochester Montessori School is to see it in motion.
Because we operate on a seasonal admissions model, opportunities to visit are structured and intentional, designed to give families a clear and authentic understanding of daily life at RMS. Tours and Open Houses take place from October through January so families can observe classrooms during the active school year before applications close in early February.
Admissions tours
Admissions Tours are offered on select Tuesday and Thursday mornings from October through January.
These adult-only visits take place during the uninterrupted morning work cycle, a defining feature of Montessori education. Observing this focused period of independent and small-group work provides insight into how responsibility, concentration, and independence are cultivated across all levels.
The tour is a required step in the admissions process. It allows families to engage meaningfully with our approach and ensures a shared understanding before moving forward with an application.
Each tour includes:
- Classroom observations
- A guided walk through the campus
- Time with administrative and admissions staff for thoughtful conversation
Student visits occur later in the admissions process after an application has been submitted, helping ensure thoughtful placement and readiness.
Virtual visits
For families who live outside the region, virtual visit options are available.
Virtual visits include a conversation with Admissions and an overview of our programs and philosophy. These conversations support the same goal as in-person tours: identifying whether RMS is a strong mutual fit.

Open House Events
RMS hosts Open House events each winter, typically in November and January.
Open House events provide an opportunity for the entire family to explore classrooms, meet Guides, and experience the community in a more informal setting. While Open Houses do not replace the required Admissions Tour, they offer additional insight into daily life and community culture.
